Travellers' Tips: Safety on Public Transportation

Mass transit systems:

• Both the BTS elevated system and the MTR subway system are clean, modern and safe.
• The only precautions you need to take are the same as you would on mass transit systems in other major cities worldwide - be aware of your surroundings and watch your personal belongings, especially when travelling during peak times.

Taxis:

• Only take registered taxis, which are clearly identified with official markings and have black-on-yellow number plates. Beware of unmarked taxis with black-on-white number plates, which are not registered.
• Have both the name of your destination and the place you are staying written in Thai if possible to help ensure you end up at your desired destination.
• Some taxi drivers may advise you that the destination to which you are going is not open or accessible, and may suggest alternate destinations. You should be firm with such drivers that you want to go to your original destination.
• You may encounter taxi drivers and others who tout gem stores or entertainment venues. These touts receive kickbacks or commissions for bringing you to these places. Travellers should not accept tours or other offers from them.
• Do not hesitate to ask to be let out of a taxi immediately if the driver is acting suspiciously or driving erratically.

Tuk-tuks:

• As these vehicles have no meters, make sure you clearly establish the fare with the driver before departing to avoid disputes when you arrive at your destination.
• Tuk-tuks are open vehicles - be sure to keep your arms and legs within the passenger compartment, especially in heavy traffic.
• Keep hold of items such as backpacks and purses to avoid losing them.
• The same advice as with taxis applies in terms of having your destination and hotel written down and being firm about having the driver take you where you actually want to go.

Passenger boats:

• These boats can become crowded during peak times. Try to ride them after the morning rush hour or before the evening rush hour to have a more relaxed journey.
• Many boat services stop at floating docks and jetties. Be ready for these platforms to shift due to waves or as passengers move around on them.
• Some of the stops these boats make are very brief. Be prepared in advance to get off at your desired destination.

Buses:

• The speed at which BMTA buses travel can vary greatly due to Bangkok's constantly changing traffic conditions.  Make sure you hold on to the handrails and be prepared for sudden stops.

230 Years of Bangkok as the Capital of Thailand

The year 2012 marks the 230th anniversary of Bangkok as the capital of Thailand. The history of Bangkok as a royal capital dates back to the year 1782, when King Rama I, or Phraphutthayotfa Chulalok the Great, established Bangkok as the capital.
The first king of the Royal House of Chakri, King Rama I built the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha complex, which is now a major landmark of Bangkok and one of the country’s important tourist attractions. 

He was born in 1736 during the Ayutthaya period and became the ruler of Ratchaburi when he was 25 years old. Following the destruction of Ayutthaya in 1767, Thai people moved south to Thon Buri to regroup and restore their kingdom. King Rama I at that time was appointed a field commander of King Taksin the Great of the Thon Buri Kingdom. He is recorded to have fought many military campaigns before being given the title of Chao Phraya Chakri, the equivalent of a modern Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. When he accepted the throne, the title Chakri was applied to the family line and remains the name of the Royal House.
After the death of King Taksin, Chao Phraya Chakri ascended the throne on 6 April 1782, when he was 46 years old. He started to establish Rattanakosin, or Bangkok, as the royal capital. Realizing that Thon Buri, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, would always be threatened by enemy attacks, he moved the capital from Thon Buri to Bangkok on the east side. The architecture of the new capital was modeled after that of Ayutthaya, the former capital.

The establishment of the new capital was the starting point of the history of Bangkok. So the history of the Royal House of Chakri is, in fact, the history of the Bangkok period. Amid political changes in each period, the Royal House of Chakri has reigned over the kingdom for 230 years now. 

The shortened official name of Bangkok is Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, meaning the Great City of Angels. The name “Bangkok,” as it is commonly known, is the original name, which comes from “Bang Makok,” or the riverside town of makok, the wild plum trees.
In the early days of its establishment, the Chao Phraya River and canals served as the main communication routes, resembling the former capital of Ayutthaya, and hence the appellation “Venice of the East” was inherited.

The city was first concentrated along the east side of the Chao Phraya River. In the fifth Reign, King Chulalongkorn opened the vista of the city beyond the original walls, when he had Dusit Palace built, linked to the Grand Palace by Ratchadamnoen Road.
Besides serving as Thailand’s capital city, the present-day Bangkok is also the center in every respect for the country, geographically and economically. It was named the world’s best city by the US-based Travel and Leisure magazine in 2008, 2010, and 2011.

"ตั้งแต่เรียนจบก็คลุกคลีในวงการธุรกิจอสังหาริมทรัพย์มาโดยตลอด ซึ่งปัจจุบันก็มีการขยายตัวไปเป็นบริษัท Bliston PropertyManagement โดยทำหน้าที่ดูแล บริหาร จัดการให้กับโรงแรม และ เซอร์วิสเรสซิเด้นท์อื่นๆ โดยมีโรงแรม และ เซอร์วิสเรสซิเด้นท์ภายใต้ Bliston Property Management ทั้งหมด 3 แห่งทั้ง Bliston Suwan Park View, Baan K Residence by Bliston และ Viva Garden Managed by Bliston นอกจากนั้นยังดูแลสนามกอล์ฟSuwangolf Countryclub ซึ่งที่ผ่านมาเคยใช้รองรับการแข่งขันระดับเอเชี่ยนทัวร์ ล่าสุดเมื่อต้นปีที่แล้วก็มีการเปิด The Circle คอมมิวนิตี้มอลสำหรับคนรุ่นใหม่ ภายใต้การบริหารของ สุวรรณ ราชพฤกษ์ ปาร์ค จำกัด ย่านถนนราชพฤกษ์ ซึ่งความท้าทายอยู่ที่ว่า เราต้องแข่งขันโดยตรงกับธุรกิจอื่นๆ ที่ทำด้านการบริหารอาคารเหมือนกัน เพราะการเข้าไปบริหารอาคารใดอาคารหนึ่ง เพื่อที่จะให้เจ้าของอาคารนั้นเชื่อถือ และ ยอมรับนั้น ต้องอาศัยการคิดอยู่เสมอว่าทำอย่างไรให้เขาเลือกใช้บริการของเรา โชคดีที่เราได้เปรียบเพราะเป็นบริษัทของคนไทย จึงสามารถเข้าใจความต้องการของเจ้าของอาคารได้ และ สามารถบริหารจัดการ และ บาลานซ์ความพึงพอใจของลูกค้าได้ ซึ่งเหล่านี้ยังนับว่าเป็นจุดเด่นของเราอยู่"


My Wishes:

"คิดว่าวันเกิดก็เหมือนวันทั่วๆไปวันหนึ่ง แต่พิเศษขึ้นมาเล็กน้อยด้วยกิจกรรมที่เราตั้งใจจะทำเพิ่ม เช่น ไปทำบุญไหว้พระและก็ไปกินข้าวกับครอบครัว ทุกๆปีที่เราอายุเพิ่มขึ้นก็ตั้งใจไว้ว่าจะให้ความสำคัญกับสุขภาพเพิ่มขึ้น หรืออย่างความรับผิดชอบในด้านต่างๆ ก็ต้องมีมากขึ้น อารมณ์ก็ต้องควบคุมให้ดีขึ้น พยายามไม่ให้มุทะลุเหมือนวัยรุ่น อีกอย่าง คือ ด้วยความที่เป็นคนชอบเรียนรู้อะไรใหม่ๆ อยู่เสมอ ดังนั้น พอมีสิ่งที่ตั้งใจเอาไว้ แล้วยังไม่ได้ทำ ก็จะไปรื้อฟื้นมาลองทำ เก็บไปเรื่อยๆให้คุ้มค่า เช่น กลับไปเรียนดนตรี เพราะตอนเด็กๆเรียนเปียโนมา เราไม่ค่อยตั้งใจ พอมาโตขึ้นไม่อยากทิ้ง เลยรื้อฟื้น ให้อาจารย์มาสอนที่บ้าน ไม่ปล่อยให้เวลาผ่านไปเฉยๆ อย่างตอนเรียนชอบเล่นกอล์ฟ พอปิดเทอมก็ไปหาลงเรียนพิเศษเอาเองแบบนี้
จริงๆเราคาดหวังเรื่องการงานมากกว่า ทุกโครงการที่เราดูแลก็อยากให้ออกมาประสบความสำเร็จ นี่เป็นของขวัญที่อยากได้มากที่สุด นอกจากนั้นก็ตั้งใจไว้ว่าอยากจะลดอะไรบางอย่างลง แล้วพยายามจัดการชีวิตให้มีเวลาพักผ่อนมากขึ้น คือที่ผ่านมาเราเคยพยายามเก็บรายละเอียดทุกอย่างในชีวิต ไม่ให้ตกหล่น อย่างชอบดูบอลมากๆ ตอนกลางคืนก็จะตามดูทุกแมทซ์ หรือไม่ก็เวลามีการถ่ายทอดกอล์ฟที่มักจะมาตอนดึกๆเราก็รอดู หรือ บางทีเพื่อนชวนไปไหนแล้วเราเป็นคนเกรงใจคนอื่น ก็ไปด้วยหมด ก็พยายามจัดสรรเวลา การใช้ชีวิตตรงนี้ให้เป็นปกติมากขึ้น มีเวลาพักผ่อนมากขึ้น"
